What is flange butterfly valve
Flange butterfly valve is a special kind of butterfly valve, which is characterized by the design of flange connection at both inlet and outlet. This flange is actually a flat surface, which can easily and effectively connect the valve and pipeline to avoid leakage problems. At the end of the pipe where the valve is connected, there are also flanges and holes of the same size. The valve is securely mounted on the piping system by means of bolts and nuts.
Flange Butterfly Valve Working Principle
A flanged butterfly valve is a right-angle rotary valve, which means that the valve disc only needs to be rotated a quarter turn to start or stop the flow of fluid. To open a flanged butterfly valve, the handle or handwheel is rotated counterclockwise a quarter turn. This rotational motion is transmitted to the valve disc through the handwheel. The valve disc maintains a synchronized motion with the piping, thus creating an unobstructed path for fluid flow.
To close a flanged butterfly valve, the handwheel is rotated one-quarter turn in the opposite direction (clockwise) from when it was opened. This causes the valve disc to rotate in the opposite direction so that it is perpendicular to the pipeline, thus stopping any fluid flow that tries to pass through the valve.
When throttling with a flanged butterfly valve, the handwheel is simply rotated slightly so that the angle is less than 90 degrees. This allows a certain amount of fluid to pass through the valve, allowing for flow control.
